Slovakia has been involved in the European project Theatre night since the year 2010. Theatre Institute Bratislava is the main Slovak coordinator.
The third year of the night of open theaters, performances, and exceptional experiences “Theatre night 2012” was held on Saturday, 17 November in 11 cities throughout the whole Slovakia. Many performances took place in 39 theatres during the third Saturday night in November ensuring great lively atmosphere. The gates of theaters stayed open in Banská Bystrica, Bátovce, Bratislava, Košice, Martin, Nitra, Prešov, Prievidza, Trnava, Žilina, and Zvolen. The event was traditionally coordinated by Theatre Institute Bratislava in cooperation with theatres in the whole Slovakia.
The headline of the third year was: Our Theatre night 2012 will be crazy, dramatic, deep, exposed, lively, exhaustive, impulsive, jealous, ethereal, mad, mysterious, addictive… And what about yours?
Theatre night 2012 was started by the radio station “Rádio Regina” with a live audio transmission in Slovenský rozhlas. Theatres were connected with their spectators from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. throughout the whole Slovakia. The theatres were connected with each other and their audience also in a different way. Exactly at 7:00 p.m. all theatres resounded with common applause being the symbol of any theatre.
The headline of the first year “We do not turn off the lights tonight!” convinced the audience that there is no need to be afraid during the “Night”, especially of the theatre. Lights were not turned off during “Theatre night 2010” in 8 cities and 28 theatres. The second year was marked by the headline “We can play all night”. 31 theatres from 9 Slovak cities “played” with the theatre-goers during the “Night” in 2011.
